Stephen A. Rosa
Stephen A. Rosa was born in San Luis Obispo, California, and grew up in the San Fernando Valley where he graduated from Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks. He was admitted to the State Bar of California in 1980 and is also admitted to the U.S. District Court, Central District of California, Ninth Circuit. Mr. Rosa was a partner in Ahrens & Rosa before joining the firm as a name partner in 2006.
Mr. Rosa is a graduate of the University of California, Irvine (BA English Literature, 1977) and attended law school at the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law (J.D. 1980).
Mr. Rosa is a member of the prestigious American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) reaching the rank of Advocate. Mr. Rosa is also a member of the Defense Research Institute (DRI), Association of Southern California Defense Counsel (ASCDC), Southern California Association of Hospital Risk Managers (SCAHRM) and the Trucking Industry Defense Association (TIDA).
Mr. Rosa is a leading medical malpractice trial attorney in Southern California who has tried in excess of 70 trials as lead counsel with a 95% success rate. Mr. Rosa specializes in catastrophic and major injury cases against health care providers including hospitals and physicians with a special emphasis in birth trauma cases. Mr. Rosa has also tried a wide variety of medical malpractice cases including major stroke and brain injuries, cases involving paralysis, as well as defending all specialities including emergency medicine, cardiology, psychiatry, neurosurgery, orthopedics, surgery and nursing. In addition to extensive experience in medical malpractice, Mr. Rosa also regularly handles and tries a variety of other insurance defense cases including major injury trucking and auto liability matters, governmental tort claims, pharmaceutical and product liability cases as well as other general liability cases. Mr. Rosa has also been retained by insurance companies and employers to defend employers in wrongful termination and other types of employment litigation. Mr. Rosa is also frequently asked by insurance companies to provide coverage opinions and handle bad faith cases. Mr. Rosa has also represented physicians in disciplinary matters before the California Medical Board and has acted as a hearing officer at peer review hearings at hospitals.
In addition to his litigation work, Mr. Rosa has also acted a court appointed arbitrator and has served as a temporary judge for Orange County and Los Angeles County Superior Courts. He has also lectured for the Department of Family Medicine at UC Irvine Medical Center on risk management issues and has provided presentations to hospitals and medical groups on a variety of medical/legal matters.
Mr. Rosa resides in Yorba Linda with his wife, Linda and his two children, Megan and Matthew. Mr. Rosa enjoys time with his family, golf and sports and is involved in “Autism Speaks”.
